I’m really feeling the anti-Children of Men vibe in this subject. Here’s a sample of the negative comments of my fellow bloggers:
From Life Out Of Balance:
“Alfonso Cuaron’s emphasis on technology over storytelling…diminishes the power of the narrative, obviously, when the director is more proud of his camera tricks and his amazing, spectacular six-minute no-cut shots”
And from World Aesthetics:
“I dislike Children of Men (Alfonso Cuarón, 2006)…I think I have discerned that I just prefer films that don’t have this kind of grittiness and rawness to them. Films from the poetic, mimetic regime, as Rancière classifies art that is regulated around reality and imitation, don’t offer as much as his other defined types.”
Geez…Take it easy on Cuaron! He’s a talented and passionate director. And handsome don’t you think? (He’s the one on the right.)
